-
- Just another data point on this Kawa tape. I, too, ordered the tape
- and got one that had one iteration of the code on one side and then
- had Jazz music on the rest of the tape.
-
- I wrote to indicate this and was told I had to send back the tape -
- my expense again, then wait for Kawa to get around to sending a
- replacement - my time wasted not his. Neither the tape nor the
- technique was worth the effort. Just a "rap" version of code and
- not particularly good.
-
- Anyone want a tape with a little code and a lot of jazz on it??

- Maybe now they won't be so harsh on code.

-
- I have a bunch of AA, C, and D nicads, which I recharge often for the
- use of my kids to run their toys.
-
- I OFTEN need to know, is this C battery charged or not. So, ...
- Doing this for AA, C and D cells shows my what the SHORT CIRCUIT
- amp condition of these batteries are. And whether it will work
- Michaels super zoomer, spinning flashing Turtle toy.
-
- Every radio shack in the world has a little battery checker. The
- circuit has to be incredibly simple. Like a 50mA meter and a resister.
- So, by posting this query,I had hoped to get a response like,
-
- To check a 10 Amh battery at 12 volts you need a 7zillion ohm resister,
- To check a D cell, get a 2 micromilli ohm resister.
-
- I GET IT that I shouldn't short my Ampmeter across anything big, (but I
- knew that cause my Electrical Engineer friend 'accidentaly' tried to measure
- the amps coming out of a wall socket, and yes the meter actually jumped
- before it fried.)
-
- So, I still don't know how to check a larger, 2-10 Ahmhour battery
- to determine its actual amp-hour. But I do have this little meter
- with a resister, that I ripped out of a recharging unit, that has
- a nice scale that says good/charge.
-
- And that's why I want to know the amp status of a battery. So I'll
- know if it needs charging before I get out in the field.
-
- So, what resister for what rating?

- the club prefix GN- (prefix hunters watch out!)
-
- the club is over for this term, we are into exams and

- perhaps next term we can QSO some of you....
-
- Jose, I will mail you further info on the club if I

-
- Everybody else, If you want a contact with the station next

- next term we can get better access, who knows.

- : appreciated. I have tried to find books on 6 meters but so far no luck.
-
- Prices for VHF SSB/CW equipment tend to be on the high side.
-
- Perhaps the biggest factor is the technology--your typical 25 watt
- radio has to be 100 times cleaner in terms of spectral purity than
- a similar HF radio. Thus, you could just "move" a cheap 10 meter
- rig to 6 meters--wouldn't meet FCC requirements. The stricter
- regulations are probably justified--we don't want amateur radios
- clobbering nearby services on VHF (I don't think the problem is
- quite as serious on HF).
-
- True, FM equipment is more reasonably priced, but FM transmitters
- generate signals more inexpensively, essentially just frequency shifting
- an oscillator. Current SSB/CW gear does it by generating SSB at a
- fixed frequency, and then moving it to the desired frequency. This
- requires expensive filters to get rid of unwanted frequencies generated
- in the translation process.
-
- Yes, there is another way of doing this--the phasing method, but no
- amateur manufacturer that I know of generates SSB this way. I hope
- to get my 6 meter phasing rig finished in time for the contest... from
- FN33JC, Mt Equinox VT. Based on R. Campbell, Jan, April, May 1993
- QST, no boards available right now but keep your fingers crossed...
-
- BTW, there is usually a good opening just before or after the contest!

-
- Hello everybody !
-
- Thanks for your helping answers. I finally got a filter (in France) - 10.7
- MHz with 2.2 kHz bandwith. It went with the lateral Xtals (10.6985 MHz in my
- case). But I have taken note of the different addresses you gave me.
-
- The choice of the 10.7 MHz IF is not innocent. I am aware that one of the
- problem when using packet radio is PLL locking time between RX and TX. It
- takes about 200 ms, if your step is really small. By using a 10.7 MHz IF
- for both TX and RX, I completly eliminate this problem, since the PLL remains
- on the same frequency. I can also use a very cheap ceramic filter to filter
- the FM.
- I know little about helicoidal filters, so I d be pretty interested in knowing
- more. Also, I d like to know what frequency swing you can expect from a Xtal
- oscillator modulated by a varicap diode.
-
- Many thanks again ! And 73 from F1RCS, Vince, QTH : Paris.
-
- Oh BTW,
-
- : Have you considered a phasing sideband generator?
-
- Yes. BF shifter is a bit complex. Unless using a FIR to implement the
- Hilbert filter.

- I have a 3 week old FT-530 with the display mike accessory. I am very
- impressed with the radio but the mike is giving me problems. If I use the
- mike, my signal strength is about the same but everyone says it sounds
- like I wrapped the mike in a towel - low audio strength.
-
- I posted this problem here about a week ago, and two or more responses
- came back with a recommended mod, but it doesn't seem to help. Opening
- the mike reveals that the main speaker has plenty of room and ventilation,
- but the actual microphone is virtually encapsulated in a separate
